Guest Post – Giving blood

February 17, 2010

Katie has been doing a fabulous job of sending me posts about things that she’s been seeing and doing around the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and I have been doing an absolute dismal job of posting them up.  Sorry!!  Her stuff is great so I’m going to make sure that I get everything up to date this morning.  Heck, this woman has bled for the Olympics!  Well, for a pin anyway 😀

I got a call the other day from people who were out for my blood. No, Edward Cullen is not stalking me, but Canadian Blood Services did give me a call to let me know I was eligible to donate again. So off I went to the Oak St. Clinic which was decked out in patriotic snowflakes and Red Olympic Mittens. After my donation – it only took six minutes for me to bleed, that’s a record – the nice volunteer escorted me to the cookie table (free cookies, it’s all about the free cookies) where I received the coolest pin EVER. Yes, there is a Vancouver 2010 pin from Canadian Blood Services.

Now I know a lot of you out there collect pins, but have you ever had to bleed for one? Trading can be hard work, tracking down rare pins I’m sure is challenging and fun, however this is one pin money can’t buy. It’s free, but all it takes is a bit of time and that you give a little of yourself. Literally. I’m going to keep this pin, I think I earned it.

If you would like to donate blood cal 1-888-2DONATE or visit the website for Canadian Blood Services.

This could be yours just for donating blood!

Way to go Katie! I gave blood myself for many years until a recent illness forced me to be taken off the list. What a great way to reward you for doing your patriotic duty. So glad to hear that you’ll be keeping this pin; you’re a bleeding winner.
