8 hours to go – Patti’s Run

February 12, 2010

I met Patti several months ago at the unveiling of the Vancouver 2010 Workforce uniforms.  We started talking in line as we waited to buy the Workforce backpacks and have been friends ever since.  Patti is a regular reader of my blog and a wonderful proofreader.  I appreciate very much her efforts to ensure that my blog is all that it can be.  And today, the day of the Opening Ceremonies for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games Patti ran with the Olympic Torch on Davie Street.

It was magical.  I got to meet several members of Patti’s family and many of her friends.  Patti looked radiant as she was dropped at her Torchbearer’s post.  There were lots of photos with everyone as we waited for the Olympic Flame to arrive and arrive it did.  Patti did a wonderful job and it was truly wonderful to run along the sidewalk watching her whole run, from the Flame first igniting on her Torch to when it was extinguished.  I am so proud to know so many Torchbearers – Patti, Robyn, Victoria, Henry, Jawn, and more.  Congratulations to all of you!  All of Canada is proud!

It’s wonderful to see how much everyone is getting into the spirit of the games. It’s finally here yet the full impact of the games hasn’t really hit us until the opening ceremonies are on. I for one, am very pleased to see it all happening before my eyes. Not since Expo has that feeling been here in a place of such grand beauty. Well done!
