5 hours to go – Global Noon News and very sad news

February 12, 2010

My excitement of being on Global BC’s Noon News Hour and Noon News Extra is truly damped by the terrible news from the Whistler Sliding Centre. Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, only 21 years old, has died following a training run. My thoughts and I know all of our thoughts are with his family, teammates, fellow competitors and all of the staff at the Sliding Centre.

Thank you merci, even through the rough times.

This is just awful. To think that this is at the start of the games prior to the openning ceremonies. He was going so fast and if you make one mistake it can be fatal. My heart goes out to his familiy and his teammates.

Tragic indeed…nice sentiment from yourself that is shared by so many others as we watch the events of the day. This is a reminder of the grim possibility of these activities.

We can say it’s his destiny but it’s so unfair to die before you realize your dreams.

I cried when I saw the accident. Such a tragedy for such a young man. And I also cried watching the opening ceremonies on the big screen. They were – how to put this – out of this world. Beautiful, amazing, inspiring, can you add more!- and the orca’s, so realistic. The best I’ve seen. So heart-warming for us as Canadians. John Furlong’s speech was so close to our hearts too. He may have hit the nail on the head when speaking about us as a country.

      Hi Jo-Anne,
It is a tragedy, you are right. So tough for everyone.
I’m glad you enjoyed the Opening Ceremonies. They were amazing!

This was so terrible, the looks on his team mates faces at the opening ceremony said it all. I know that everyone was thinking of him through the games, and ‘living it’ for him too.
