22 days 13 hours to go – Cultural Olympiad

January 21, 2010

The Cultural Olympiad is a very exciting programme of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games is the which also includes a Digital Edition (CODE).  Here is what VANOC has to say:

“From January 22 to March 21, the best artists from Canada and around the world will play in our own backyard. Genre-bending theatre; stunning virtuoso dance; fierce, fresh music; breathtaking visual and digital art extravaganzas — Cultural Olympiad 2010, presented by Bell, will bring it all to Metro Vancouver and the Sea to Sky corridor.”

Now, I am very excited about some of the programming that will be going on but I find myself often overwhelmed by the volume and variety of theatre, music, art installations, digital collaborations and such that are available. (VANOC has 193 events listed).  Luckily for me I have a guide.  There is the online schedule of events (also available in print) but I rely on kk+, a local photographer, web strategist and author to send me in the right direction.    His passion for the arts in Vancouver is evident and I appreciate that’s he’s giving his opinion on the options.  Definitely check out his site, whether you’re in Vancouver or not.  A lot of the CODE options can be enjoyed/viewed/shared online.

kk+’s website is Creativity, Change, Culture & Communication.

Wednesday morning was quite beautiful in Vancouver.  The sun cast some amazing light across the city.  I couldn’t resist a photo or two.  I also noticed that the Vancouver 2010 banners had mostly been installed on the Granville Street Bridge the day before, but luckily they were still doing the last few so I could take a photo of the process.

I tried to sleep without writing and just couldn’t do it.  Now that I’ve posted a little something I’m going to catch a few hours.  Hope to see you for Walkabout #2.  We start at about 9:20am (Thursday, January 21) at the Olympic Line Opening.  Thank you merci.
