109 days to go – The Official books of the Games

October 25, 2009

There are quite a few books in the works for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.  I think tonight we should all become familiar with what’s in the works!

109 - Official ProgramThe first is the Vancouver 2010 Official Souvenir Program.  It will be available in November, and is currently available for pre-sale for $17.85 (+ taxes and shipping) on the Vancouver 2010 website.  The program will be 148 pages and available in both English and French.  It will include photography, stories and information about all of the sporting events, venues and other tidbits.  It will include both the Olympic and Paralympic Games and is billed as “the ultimate collectible and keepsake of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.”

O SiyamThe next is O Siyam: Aboriginal Arts inspired by the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter GamesClick here for my previous post that includes information on this paperback book.  It will be available in November as well and is currently available for pre-sale at $35 + taxes and shipping.

Book A Path of Northern LightsThe third book is called A Path of Northern Lights/Une Traîneé D’Aurores Boréales and is the Vancouver 2010 Torch Relay book.  It will be a paperback and predominantly a photo book, documenting the Olympic Torch’s travels throughout Canada on its 45,000 kilometre journey!  It will be available in March, but is pre-selling now for $30 + taxes and shipping.

Book With Glowing HeartsThe next book is called With Glowing Hearts/Des Plus Brillants Exploits and is the Official Commemorative book of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games.  This hardcover (with dust jacket) book is described by the Vancouver 2010 website as:

With Glowing Hearts/Des Plus Brillants Exploits is the only official book commemorating the spirit, passion and beauty of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.”
“Hundreds of pages feature stunning original images capturing the grace and skill of the athletes; the glorious spectacles of the Opening, Closing and medal Ceremonies; and the raw emotions of the torch relay. Here are the crucial details about the seven sports (15 disciplines) of the Olympic Winter Games and the five sports (14 disciplines) of the Paralympic Winter Games: the medallists, the contenders, the headlines — and the lesser-known stories that ring true with Olympic and Paralympic Spirit.”
“Unique, behind-the-scenes accounts provide an insider’s view of the journey to 2010, and the faces, places and ideals of the Games experience. The spotlight is on sport, but vibrant cultural and community celebrations are also part of the lavish visual essay offered in With Glowing Hearts/Des Plus Brillants Exploits.”

It will be around 400 pages long and available in May 2010.  It is currently available for pre-sale for $85 + taxes and shipping.

Book Mascot StoryThe final official book that I can find so far is Miga, Quatchi and/et Sumi, a book about the Vancouver 2010 Mascots!  This 32-page paperback storybook tells the stories of Miga, Quatchi and Sumi and how they came to be at the Vancouver 2010 Games.  It is $15 + taxes and shipping and is available now, both online and in the Olympic Superstore!  I love this book and have already given it as a gift several times!  It is great for parents to read to their children and as a reader for youngsters!

Just a note if you’re planning on ordering from Vancouver 2010 online… don’t forget to use promo code “VANSHIP9” on any order over $100 to receive free shipping within Canada!  I believe this will work even for the pre-order books though I haven’t tried it yet.

Thank you merci for reading!
